Mom & Bob accepted an offer last night! Hopefully the contingencies will be removed soon, The guy wants a fast close. Once they're removed we're home free. I can't wait. This limbo crap has been driving me insane. On the crochet front I've finished multiple projects that I cant show you yet. If the weather is good tomorrow Ill take pictures of my Jade Sappire cashmere sweater, and some hats I finished awhile ago. But I'll leave you with this nice holiday picture...

Thats Ricky. He'd look happier but he kept blinking, this is the best of like 30 pictures.

Halloweenie

Well I spent today cleaning my room, its fairly nice. My mom said she'd wash my floor and then its all ready. So far we've had 1 group of trick or treaters. It's way sad. I hope when we move we'll be somewhere that gets lots of them.

Pumpkin Massacre 2007

Pumpkin carving is so much fun. Im not quite the pumpkin carving artist as my Sister, Sara, she was born with the pumpkin carving gift, but Im not bad. Tho Im happy I only got 3 this year. My mom packed away the pumpkin carving knives so I had to use the big one there and a small steak knife. Not so easy, and now the tips of my fingers on my right hand are numb, and my wrist and arm hurt like hell. But luckily I didnt cut myself. Ill take pictures of the results tomorrow night when I light them.

On the crochet front, I started a tree topper using my Under the Sea Star pattern. Im using Blue Sky Bulky with Filatura New smoking running with it. I think it will be cute. I just have to figure out how to mount it. Then I think Ill make ornaments with the rest of the new smoking. Ill probably teach a workshop on it for the store. Theyre getting pretty popular, and I think the last email about them helped drive some traffic to my website.

Okie, back to watching "Pumpkinhead" on the new Fear.net on Demand =)

Long time no talk

So Ive been a bad blogger. This moving stuff if totally for the birds. The cats are not loving it. Poor Pepper who really doesnt like change(remember his peter problems brought on by the stress of having Magick in my parents room?), well he's scratching his chin all up and freaking out whenever my Litter maid goes to clean. Dede thinks its all so fun, she loves running around jumping on boxes and peeking in on Bob or Juan working in the bathroom or kitchen. Oh to be a kitten..Ive finished a bunch of projects but I have been busy during the day and havent been able to take them out in the light to photograph them. I'll try to post some stuff soon.Tomorrow starts AMC's Monsterfest, I cant wait, Nothing but horror movies from here to Halloween. And they actually have some good ones in there. The Halloweens (3 not being a good one, nor actually a real "Halloween" movie)Original Nightmare on Elm Street, Children of the Corn, all enough to make me giddy. And there are ads for a new Horror movie network going live on Halloween, looks like they might just be an OnDemand or online thing tho. But I wont complain, much.
Pepper just stole an old swatch of mine...I should go see what he's doing with it...

My Little...

You Are a Mermaid

You are a total daydreamer, and people tend to think you're flakier than you actually are.
While your head is often in the clouds, you'll always come back to earth to help someone in need.
Beyond being a caring person, you are also very intelligent and rational.
You understand the connections of the universe better than almost anyone else.

Yarn Diet

I think I may have to go on a yarn diet soon... I just packed up my yarn.. I bought those Ziploc Big Bags for it, the xxl 20 gallon ones... I filled 4 of them. And I think theres more yarn hiding in my room under some clothes..
In other news, my tailbone still hurts. It's kinda embarrassing. That's what I get for trying to do a good thing by giving blood. Maybe I should go get a new tattoo so I wont be able to give blood for another year. Bah, I need to lay down.

Spa Escape take 1...

Well, I held my first Spa Escape for my BeautiControl stuff. It was almost a bust. I invited everyone from work and we held it at the store after hours and it ended up being Me, my mom, the owner and Gunilla my webmistress. It was still fun, and in a way it's probably good it wasnt crazy, as I gave blood yesterday and this morning I passed out in the shower and seriously messed up my back and bruised my tailbone. So I was a tad out of it. I got some practice and I know what I need to brush up on and what I need to have next time, I just hope there will be a next time. Right about now I could really use an long bath with the Luxuries of the Sea bubble bath and masque, but I dont have my bath tub back yet. =( I'll have to make due with a glass of wine and bed..

Cattywampuss!!!

Isnt it cuuute?! I love it. It will soon be a craftkitten pattern.
On the homefront, my bathroom has been ripped out and is in disarray, the new tub just went in yesterday, but thats it, Bob was working on tinting and laquering the family room floor today, so it was really stinky.
Im having wacky dreams again.. Tho last night it was a happy one. My sister, Sara, was pregnant again and healthy, it made me happy. Im sure it will happen soon. I want her to be happy and healthy again so bad. Please send her healthy vibes and thoughts so we can help her along.

a word of advice

Do not eat 3 day old leftover Palak paneer. It's a bad idea. Especially when your stepfather is ripping out your bathroom. And no its not Ecoli. Its not that bad, but it still aint fun. To clear those lovely images from your head here are some lovely finished objects...

This is my "Hollywood Starlet Purse". Isn't it cute? 2 hanks of Colinette "Tao" and an adorable purse frame from Sunbelt. The dress is vintage 40's linen, that I havent been able to fit in for awhile.

This is my "Elle 7 Bag" made with granny squares put on an angle, done with 2 balls of Diakeito "Rococo", a self striping yarn better than Noro's "Kureyon".

I also finished a new amigurumi kitty. But my mom needs to embroider on the nose and whiskers before I can take pics.

I recently developed a case of kitten fever... I was driving past the Petco in Los Gatos on my way home on Sunday, and there was a sign "Kitten adoptions" I sooo almost swerved right in. So I begged my mom to get another kitten, but I cant until we get to Arizona. Which is probably a better thing cuz then the cats will be les territorial cuz the new place with just come with the new kitten.. Is it bad that I have a name picked out already?

Super Fun Happy Dream

So after all my talk of supper fun happy post, I ended up having the superest fun happy dream. Me and my whole family we vacationing in Egypt, and my friend Mel told me about a yarn store there where she bought this fabulous horizontal spinning wheel and I was in some random store and a girl behind the counter was knitting and I talked to her about crochet and the yarn store, and thenMagick was there she had come back to me and everything was super fun happy. I didnt want to wake up, but I did and I was in a very good mood. I think this could come true some day. I know Magick will come back to me some day, I know it's hokey but I believe in reincarnation, and with cats it can happen fast within your lifetime. So I expect to see that glimmer of Magick in another kitten's eye someday. And I will take her home and love her all over again. I can't wait.

Super fun happy post?

So Ive been avoiding you my bloggy friends.. My last few posts were kinda downers and I thought I should write a super fun happy post to make up for it, but I wasnt feeling it. Ive finished a few crochet things that Im happy with but I just cant get with it. I picked up Magick today, her box is really pretty. As soon as I brought it home I put it on her pillow and laid down, and DeDe came and sniffed it and head butted it and rolled over purring and she laid with me. It's hard to be depressed when faced with this...

Thank the cat gods for sending her to me when I really needed her.

Craft Kitten in Arizona?

So, Im probably going to be moving to Tuscon, Arizona. Not till like January or Febuary, my mom figures it will take 3 months to get the house fixed up and ready to sell. Houses are much cheaper there and we can get something out there as good or better than what we have for like 175,000-200,000$ so we'd have a rather low mortgage payment. And the weather is warmer, the coldest month on average is January and the average high for then is 66. My aunt and uncle and cousins (Mom's side) live out there so Id be closer to more family, and only a couple hours farther from Sara.Teresa and Morgen may move out that way later when Morgen is finished with school here so he can go to school in Tempe, which would them about as far away as they are now. And I did look into the yarn stores there, theres 4 or 5. I found 2 of their websites and they look ok. And theres a thriving SnB group. I dunno... Ive never lived anywhere but San Jose, it will be ultra weird. But I figure as long as I have my kitties, a cable tv, and some yarn I should be ok.

On the crochet front Im almost done with my tank top done in the fingering weight silk. Working on the braided straps currently, then Ill do the belt bottom. Then you can have pictures, my pretties.

Magick

This is Magick the day I brought her home. I bought her at the flea market from a stall that had asian vases and cheap plastic toys. She fit in my moms purse and she carried her around in there the rest of the day. My sister Teresa wanted to name her Abba. Bob thought she said Abra, like abrakadabra, and said why dont you just call her Magic. I saw the pentagram on her back and knew her name needed to be Magick.

This is her maybe a little over a year old. When she would play with a string or toy she would stare and cock her head until it almost turned around like an owl, then she would let out this big cute yawn. We used to guess how long till she would yawn. She also LOVED to lick your fingers, always when you pet or scratched her she would start licking your fingers. Once a friend was lying on my bed and his hand fell on the side under the bad and he jusmped up surprised cuz she sneak attacked him and started licking his fingers.

This is how I will remember her, all fat and cute. Last wednesday we took her in to the vet and let her go. It was time. She had this whine that just said "Mommy I dont feel good." and she was just tired of being in pain. I love her so much, and I miss her more than anything, but Im happy that she's no longer hurting.

OMG

You have to read this. This is the funniest take on the whole "Not your grandmas knitting" thing.
http://www.theanticraft.com/archive/lugh06/craftinjuries.htm
I love this site.. Its like the Family Guy of craft magazines. I constantly find myself thinking "Did they really just say that?"

Ideas for Birthday presents

I know its a month from now, (Sept. 10th) but in case anyone is wondering what to get me for my birthday..
1. Money (as my vet doesnt sell gift certificates, and Magick is very expensive. Any amount will help.)
2. Stitch Painter ( I need this program to make stitch diagrams and color charts for patterns to sell to make money for Magick.)
I think thats it. At least those are the only things I need. Magick is so sick, she has the icky eye goopies again and I have to give her ointment. They did another blood test today to see if the Epogen is working. I hope its doing something. If it is we may up the dosage, and I asked if she could use a transfusion, but it will only do good if the epogen is working otherwise its too temporary. They can do a kidney transplant, they do them up at Davis. If they'll do it for her I want to try, I dont care if I have to pay for it for the rest of my life. I will do anything for her. "Worth dying for, worth killing for, worth going to hell for."

Crochet explosion!

I've finished a ton of stuff! Im taking pics tomorrow as its too dark now. But I finished a halter of of Berroco cotton twist last week, and yesterday I finished a halter I designed out of the silk yarn I got in LA, and tonight I finished a cabled clutch I designed for a free workshop Im doing soon, I still need to felt it, but I want to take pre-felting photos first. I will try to get them all taken and posted tomorrow.

I did take pics of my new Fat Kitty amigurumi, I made it in Rowan Big Wool. I submitted it to CrochetMe but she wanted pics in natural light and a solid color. Luckily I was working on this one to give to my little sister as a belated B-day present. Here it is with Gato, he is not a good model, he wouldnt look at me and he kept wandering off. It's still cute tho.

Smart Kitty

Geez it's hot. But at least I know my kitties are ok. That's Riker by the way, very smart hanging out in front of the fan. No side effects today, tho now I wonder if it wasnt a 24 hour thing or the heat, cuz Bob has the same problems now. Not much else to report, I came home from work and slept cuz it was too hot to do anything else.

Monday, July 24, 2006

Mmm side-effects.

Dont ya just love them?? Last week I started a new anti-depressant, the generic of Celexa. Today the side effects kicked in in full force, nausea, dizziness, and a major headache. And it wasnt my normal kind of headache, it was all stinging like like millions of bees stinging the back of my head. It was FAN-TAS-TIC. Luckily I was a work today and it was a lovely 74 degrees inside, but I couldnt concentrate on crocheting, so I buzzed around doing all sorts of little things. Making new signs, new handouts redid the class board.. I hope I dont make anyone angry by changing so many things, but I just had to keep working.

So, last week I drove down to LA to spend some time with my older sister. It was hot and very humid down there. I managed to get her out to see Pirates of the Caribbean on Thursday night. It was ok, definately not as good as the original, but so few sequals are anyway. It served its purpose, we were entertained for a few hours outside the apartment. Then friday we went to check out a couple yarn stores she hadnt been to before, The Little Knittery, and Black Sheep Knittery.

The Little Knittery was nice, lots of Rowan, Noro, Malabrigo and their own hand dyed yarns, which I helped myself to 2 skeins of their 100% silk sport weight 256yd per hank yarn. I think I will attempt a tank with some lacy stuff on the bottom. Did I say they were having a sale?? 50% off summer yarn and all Rowan yarn and 30% off everything else? So Originally 32$ ends up 22.40! Score! The store was a little strange and half of the store was yarn and the other was like a posh clothing store, probably cuts down on costs but wacky.

The Black Sheep Knittery was nice, kinda big like the front of KA. There was Colinette, a ton of Koigu, Lots of Alchemy, and much more. BUT there was no A/C. We didnt linger too long. But they did have a little bin up front with some sale stuff, I got a fabulous copper vintage looking purse frame and a very cute 3" round shell button. I was going to post the picture, but apparently Blogger is done with pictures for the day. Maybe later.

So this morning was fun.. some jerk decided it would be funny to throw a large stone through the back window of Bob's truck and break the windshield as well. Like we dont have enough problems. There's another 500$ we CANT afford! My mom is taking a temp job soon, and Im going to try and see if theres any restaurants near work that are hiring for night work, but I think it was the straw that broke the camel's back. My mom thinks we'll have to sell the house now. This isnt fair! We're good people, I give blood all the time, we donate to charities when we can, I helped a short lady at the grocery store reach a jug of water on the top shelf today. What do we have to do to not have all this crap keep happening?? Was I like a nazi in a former life or something???

On the Magick front, her numbers were looking good the other day, but she's not eating as much as she should, so we started her on an appetite stimulant and then if that works then we'll try her again on the epogen shots for her anemia. She's not handleing the heat well tho. Yesterday I napped with her and put a ice pack under her and one for myself. I washed her this morning so hopefully that helped her a little, but Im gonna go sit with her and coax her into eating.
Maybe tomorrow Ill be able to post pics of my finished Victoria Bolero 2.0.

Why the world needs Superman

I've been in love with Superman for as long as can remember. It comes easy since he was played by Christopher Reeve, with whom I share a last name. And I ran to every incarnation, the animated series, Lois & Clark, Smallville.. but this latest truly lives up to my childhood dream of him. If you havent gone already, go now. Go twice, this is how you make a Superman movie. It helps that it has the same stirring John Williams theme. And Brandon Routh has that twinkle in his eye that is very reminiscent of Christopher Reeve. And if you want a good villian, look no further than Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor. This is a truly evil Lex, a real nemesis for Superman, not a joke in a bad suit. Im so happy that it was good. And I hope they make many more as good or better than this.

Godmoma's Forge

Have I told you how much I love Godmoma's Forge? Gunilla, the design queen of Godmoma's Forge created my craftkitten.com website. It is so choice. Im so happy with it. Not only did she design and create my website, but arranged the paypal payment and fixed my patterns so they looked more professional. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty. If you ever need a website or webstore designed I HIGHLY recommend her.

Little rant.

Why do some knitters feel the need to belittle crocheters? How dare you say that my craft is anything less than yours! Today a woman came into my work and I was crocheting. The first words out of her mouth after I greeted her were "You're not knitting" (dirty look on face) I replied "No, I'm crocheting." She went about her business. Then when she went to leave she said "Do you knit as well?" I replied "No, I only crochet" (disapproving look on face, Hands on hips) "Well you just have to learn how to knit." I replied "I do not want to knit." And with that she left. I wanted very badly to explode. Why do I have to be treated like a second class citizen of the craft world? Do these people realize how rude they are being by acting this way? Do they just not care?? Maybe I was a little ready for this anger after reading the CrochetMe blog, she had a rant about book publishers and yarn stores discriminating against crocheters. But geez. Knitters please, leave me alone. I don't belittle your craft, don't belittle mine, or anyone else's for that matter.

TNNA

Wow... It was huge. So much happened. Ill give you a taste with some pics now then I'll write more tomorrow.
These are all the goodies I managed to pick up. I plan on giving some of this as prizes to the crochet meetup at some point as incentive to come.

Debbie Stoller was there Sunday signing copies of Happy Hooker. I managed to get one for myself and a copy to give as a grand prize to someone in the crochet group.

Day of the Beast + 1

Well, another apocalypse past.. I wonder how many more I have to survive before I Shanshu...(obscure "Angel" reference)On the crochet front, Ive finished a halter top I designed for myself after failing miserably at the one from Sexy Little Knits. My stitch gauge was spot on but the row gauge was way off, dont know how to fix that, and the pattern had so many mistakes anyway I was done with it.. I still have to sew in the hook & eye closure for the back, but then I can wear it.I used Berroco Suede and some wooden beads from D&J Hobby. I had a picture of it up here, but Blogger is being dumb and wont let me put it up..Here it is on Flickr.

My next project is to use in Tahoe, its an intarsia Beach Bag! Im using Lana Knits Hemp for Knitting held double, so it's going pretty fast. It should be 20x 16 x4 when Im done, and Im going to slip stich on more detail. But here's where I am so far..

As you can see, Magick is doing well. I bought a present for her, the New improved and fancy, Litter Maid Elite Mega! It is so choice, if you have the means I highly recommend picking one up. It has a sleep timer on it so that it wont clean for a set 9 hour period. It has an Ionic air cleaner in the motor, the rake is now completely detachable so it can be cleaned, which is how my last one broke, got the motor wet trying to clean the rake.. Every complaint I had about the Litter Maid Mega has been fixed. And Pepper, who had been watching the broken Litter Maid for the last 2 years waiting for it to move, is so excited to have this now.

Well, I have to get back to packing, Im leaving for Indianapolis to go to TNNA. (The National Needle Arts Convention) I hope it will be fun. There the retailers luncheon on Friday and then the fashion show, then Saturday morning is the invitational Tahki/S. Charles Breakfast, and Sunday is the invitational Rowan Breakfast. I can't wait to see the new yarn! Ill take pictures if I can and post when I get back.

What kind of Margarita are you?

You Are a Lime Margarita

Realistic and grounded, you have the energy to tackle any obstacle that stands in your way.
Hyper and driven, you despise lazy behavior of all kinds... especially lazy drunks too tired to dance!

Magick back home!!

She's home!!! I'm so happy. I have to give her subcutaneous fluids in the morning and anti-biotics twice a day and a phosphorus inhibitor once a day. And she's on special food. But she's eating and acting more like herself, tho a little tired. I ordered this supplement from Drsfostersmith.com that is high in calories and has vitamins and stuff and will encourage her to eat more, and I checked with the doctor, he said it would be ok to give her. Well off to play with Magick.

Headbutts & Finger licking!

Magick has now been at the regular vet since Tuesday morning. And she's doing much better. I went to visit her today and she not only purred, but headbutted me and licked my fingers, which are the 2 things that make Magick herself. She hasn't been doing that for a long time, which was how I knew something was wrong. The techs also said she's been talking to them whenever they go by her cubby, which is something else she hadn't been doing. She would yowl to go outside but not talk like she normally did. They did another blood test today and the doctor said her kidney numbers had come down significantly, which is good, she's not yet back to normal but its a drastic improvement. They're going to keep her again tonight and she should be able to come home tomorrow probably with sub-cutaneous fluids, which I've done for Baby before. Part of me thinks she really did this for attention, you know with 8 cats sometimes it's hard to get 1 on 1 attention without a kitten jumping on your head. The other funny thing is, she wont use their cat box, turns out they use regular cat litter and not the scoopable kind. Talk about a finicky cat. Well, I'll know more tomorrow...

Magick Peed

So we went to the emergency vet yesterday. And it was scary, Magick was so dehydrated her mouth would stay open if you moved it. The vet said that her kidneys weren't working. The have her on IV fluids to help open her up. He said that if she can make urine it will show that things are working and she might be able to get better. So I worried all day and all night and by 8pm she hadn't peed and I was scared to death. My mom said we could go visit her today to check on her. It looked like every other pet in the area chose the holiday to get sick or hurt too, the receptionist had to sneak us in the back to see her because there were no free rooms. But the tech said she had peed a lot and she looked a lot better, more like Magick and she purred. Then she peed all over the towel in her cubby. I never thought I'd be so happy to see her peeing on a towel before. She's not out of the woods yet, but I think she can see the road.

I know..

I haven't written in awhile. Magick is VERY sick. She's lost way too much weight, there's no fat on her face, and her eyes look sunken, and she's miserable, unless she's outside by the pool and even then she doesn't want to be touched. I made an appt at the vet this morning, but they cant see her until Tuesday morning. Tonight I noticed that her breath smelled awful, even Pepper noticed it. So I opened her mouth and I think one of her back molars is rotten. I think that would explain things.Mouth hurtie and tummy upset by the infection so she doesn't want to eat and when she does she vomits...She's bad tho I'm worried about waiting, she's worse today than yesterday. I think I'm going to have to call the emergency place, at least they could start her on antibiotics..But its going to be expensive. So don't expect to see me in any recreational capacity anytime soon. I also just notice her stomach felt weird.. It was like memory foam. I'm hoping her bladder is just full and she has to pee, but I don't know.. It feels like I just lost Baby, my 16 yr old cat I had since I as 7. She died 2 1/2 yrs ago, I cant take another. I wont lose my Magick. It's a good thing I got my paypal credit card paid down, I'm gonna need it I think.

Headache from Hades

If you haven't guessed from the title, I will not be going to the Knitting meetup tonight. I've had this headache for days, and it is unresponsive to any and all painkillers, so I will try to rest and will it away. And maybe I'll try working on more Craftkitten.com stuff. I've been lax with it which is bad.. But soon I will be revamping the Victoria Bolero with Colinette's Wigwam. Someday I'd like to redo the ballet sweater too, especially to test the pattern. If anyone is interested in testing the pattern I'll give it to you for free, thats all I can really offer as I am poor, but I might be able to work something else out, send me a note if you want more info.

Being a good girl.

Ooh...Its been awhile.. So I will be good and update you. I'm thoroughly enjoying the warm weather, I've missed heat for so long. But now my forgotten enemy is back, Over-Air Conditioning. I hate going into the grocery store or movie theatre and they have the a/c cranked up so high ice crystals form on the vents. Anyway, Saturday night I went out with a few friends to see Christopher Titus at the San Jose Improv. He was hilarious as usual. I've seen him 4 times and its always so funny my sides ache afterwards.
Sunday was mother's day and my mom wanted to hang out in the back yard and just be lazy. So I was a good girl and helped her pull some weeds, which in still regretting with the pain in my legs from bending and stuff. Then it was hot so I took a nap..While my mom was watering some flowers out front she found this.
There's a pretty mama dove too, my mom put out some bird seed close so she can get it without leaving them for too long.
Then Monday, I left work a little early and went to Fry's and bought some canned air to clean the inside of my computer, the fan was making angry noises. The I rebought Warcraft 3, I had it but I wanted to install the expansion but it wanted me to re-install the original first, but I had lost the disc. So I spent last night playing me some warcraft till about midnight.

This is my newest project, I started it because it was too hot to work on my other ones which were wool or wool/silk blends. This is from Stitch & Bitch:Happy Hooker, its the "Violet Beauregard" skirt. I'm using some Tahki Cotton Classic I've had in my stash for years, I bought it on eBay right after I learned to crochet. The sizing is nice on it, I'm actually a medium, that hasn't happened in awhile. Its pretty easy, though not as opaque as I thought, definitely need a slip underneath.
As for tomorrow, I'm not sure if I will go to the Knitting Meetup yet, if I can get off work early and go home and rest and eat dinner, I'll come back. If I have to stay till 6 I'll be too tired to wait an hour and then go to the meetup at 7. I'll post tomorrow if I'm going.
There, happy? All up to date and everything. hehe. Now Im gonna go play some Warcraft.

What do you do with a dirty kitty?

WASH HER!

Poor Magick was lookin really greasy so I hopped into the bathtub with her and gave her a good scrubbing. Luckily its nice and warm today so she dried off fast.

More work goes on setting up CraftKitten.com. I'm trying to get pictures for all my free patterns, so I remade my little octopus toy as kitties have thrashed all the old ones.. So here it is..
